07:10 pm - yaay yaay yaay! yaay! you better go. Sputnik is the best comic store ever and Mogwai is the best bar ever next to Mag:Net High Street (hehehe). we're gonna help curate the movies so just tell me if you want to watch anything you've been looking for for a while. if you haven't gone yet (and of course you all have because you're hip happening people) do try the lapu-lapu, the sole fillet and the chicken liver pasta. the food is beautiful. as for Sputnik, it's the best place to go if you want comics that aren't just about busty women wearing tight latex beating each other up and. though if you are into that, they have that too :) i highly recommend you all go and get Adrian Tomine's wonderful new graphic novel Shortcomings. it's very different from his usual stuff -- more talky and plot-based; less quiet and poetic. it's his most honest work, though, and while reading it you might sometimes squirm because you know he's talking about himself and you feel embarrassed for him. +/- fuck yeah,got a mention in Ben Templesmith's website! yes, cheap thrills, that's my middle name. we interviewed the 30 Days of Night co-creator at NU (and as always the ever-reliable Charlie Satan has an audio file of that) and later that night he went to Rockeoke with Tals and the rest of the Fully Booked crew. My personal favorite moment has to be Jaime Daez dedicating a song to Mr. Templesmith, which ended up being "Everytime I See You" by Fra Lippo Lippi. though, of course, this is a close second-- also, i noticed that many people who comment on the "Shallow Graves" video question vocalist Miggy Chavez's sexuality. all the things people say about Miggy being gay are so not true! I mean, look at this guy fuckin rock out onstage, man! 02:44 am - la haine engendre la haine so i saw Coheed and Cambria the other day... and i found it very strange that all around me there were children. CHILDREN. they weren't even the target market annoyingly referred to as "Tweens". these were 9 year olds sporting emo haircuts, hanging on to their fathers whilst sitting on their chairs. in my mind i wondered if, back in '85, when Guy Picciotto was flinging himself through basketball hoops and crying during gigs, he foresaw the masses of little children sporting bad haircuts he would later indirectly inspire. also, old man me only discovered then that Pete Wentz was actually not the frontman of the band, but the bass guitarist. this brings forth the query -- why is this man supremely popular? because he is banging ashlee simpson, i guess. and then he starts talking about Iraq and politics and i can't believe it because the army of 9 year olds surrounding me start cheering.
